Hey, I’m Kara

It was the second week of my first full time job as a Copywriter when I decided it would be cool and casual to dress as Don Draper for the agency halloween party, asserting myself as the Creative Director I aspired to be one day. This wasn’t the first time I used a fictional character to drive my career goals. My first media muse was Elle Woods. Legally Blonde made 7 year old me obsessed with the idea of becoming a high powered lawyer….a Harvard lawyer nonetheless. After arguing and winning my first and only case, a powerpoint I presented to my parents on why we should get a dog, I got swept up in a new dream…Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepard. After a few episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, plans immediately commenced for me to become a world class neurosurgeon. I started a medical notebook, and diligently took notes during each episode of what was universally revered as one of the most medically inaccurate hospital dramas. I don’t think I need to tell you this aspiration was swiftly squashed when I was faced with the dissection of a frog during ninth grade biology. When Mad Men came into my life, I swapped my scalpel for a thin tipped sharpie and found myself wrapped up in the world of 2am ideas, attention grabbing one liners, and offices that really know how to do happy hour.
